Avant Gardeners Gift Guide 2024

for the gardeners, drinkers, abstainers, little ones & special humans in your life

Hi friend,

It’s the season for giving. Here’s some things we’ve loved (or coveted) this year.

You’re the best. Thank you for being here,
Maddie & Emily

Things that don’t cost much

  • A voucher to provide an afternoon of help in your friend’s garden.

  • A handmade syrup for cordials or something boozy!

  • A bouquet of hand-picked herbs or flowers.

  • Propagate something from your garden or an indoor plant to gift.

  • Make batches of Hetty McKinnon’s Everything Oil. (From To Asia With Love).

  • Jot down some of your favourite recipes on cute paper.

  • Make some rocky road & spread the love far & wide. This one looks yum.

We’ve banged on about Bokashi One in so many episodes (like this one & this one) so it’s a thrill to offer 15% off their entire range. Whether you’re on a big property, a suburban block, or a can’t-swing-a-cat sized apartment, Bokashi diverts waste from landfill & improves the way you garden. Think about buying a friend (or yourself) something from Bokashi One for Christmas & use AG15 to receive the discount.

For the drinkers

  • Introduce some Cicchio pistachio spritz to your life. Fab served on a sunny day, in your garden, with a mate or two to share it with.

  • If beer & ripe white peaches had a love child, this would be it. It’s the Wildflower Saint Abigail 2024.

  • This low-alc, very drinkable, uber refreshing Elderflower Sparkling is a triple threat!

For the teetotaler

  • Our lovely friend Lilli makes gorgeous ceramic mugs & vases & we’re obsessed. Be quick though, Letty stuff sells out fast.

  • Currently loving Tambourine Tea’s Toffee Rooibos - it’s like a non-caffeinated dessert & cuppa tea in one!

  • We often eat Tony’s Chocoloney when recording because it’s so delicious. We get it from our local IGA.

  • Salted Grapefruit soda because YUM.

For the readers in your life

  • Graft by Maggie McKellar - a beautiful story of life, loss, motherhood & merinos.

  • Outside In is by two of our faves - Sophia Kaplan & Lauren Camilleri. It’s giving us all of the inspo for how to thoughtfully blend design with the natural world.

  • Amazing veggie growing tips in Hannah Maloney’s Good Life Growing.

  • Love Crumbs by Nadine Ingram (Christmas dessert is looking v. fancy this year).

  • The Compost Coach by Kate Flood (sooo good that this is the second year in a row we recommended it!).

  • The Plant Clinic by Erin Lovell Verinder is such a beautiful, useful book.

For the foodies

  • A jar of the best local honey you can afford.

  • Love us a bit of spice - give a firey gift with Crack Fox Hot Sauce. It’s organic spray-free & supports regen farmers.

  • Hot off the press, Food Face is like Celebrity Heads but for food & drink lovers. Buy it for your foodie mates on the proviso they’ll have a spicy-marg-infused dinner party & invite you to play.

  • Having launched in November we’re all eyes for Hobart-based Maebel’s glassware & lights.

  • Tasman Sea Salt really is what it says on the box.

  • Karkalla packs a flavoursome punch with its collection of native spice mixes that celebrate Indigenous species.

For the gardeners

  • We’re eyeing off Bush Mits for the tough jobs. They’re SPS50 and keep your fingers free for fiddly gardeney/farmy stuff.

  • Emily’s loving her Le Sac gardening belt and their new colours are beautiful.

  • A Bokashi bin to turn food scraps into garden gold! Use AG15 at checkout for 15% off.

  • Oak and Rose Razor Hoe is an all-round player in the garden.

  • Obsessed with seeds and more at Veggie and Flower Garden Seeds.

  • A plant nursery voucher.

  • This probiotic plant tonic for healthy foliage and soil is a great stocking filler. Enjoy 15% off by using the code AG15 at checkout. We both just bought some!

Experiences South of Australia (IYKYK)

Come & visit Tassie!

  • Stay at our beautiful friend Emma’s place just down the road. If you don’t, we will. Rising Farm has a pickers’ hut or glamping option to choose from!

  • Stay at The Bowmont or book one of Michelle’s amazing events.

  • It’s hard to go past the Agrarian Kitchen. Opt for a restaurant lunch, the casual kiosk, a garden tour or a cooking class.

  • Treat someone with a ticket to the Anchovy pop-up at Fat Pig Farm. Happening late Jan to March-ish 2025.

For the pets/pet owners

  • EnsoPet reduces landfill, deals with pet poo minus the smell and turns it into magic for your soil. Enter AG15 to receive 15% off.

  • Stuffed bunny toys for dogs are so passé. We love this crunchy prawn instead!
